Polyaluminum Chloride (PAC) is a widely used inorganic polymer coagulant with excellent performance, which has the following industry applications:

Water Treatment

Drinking Water Purification: PAC is commonly used to purify drinking water. It can effectively remove impurities such as bacteria, viruses, and suspended solids, making the water meet the national drinking water standards. It can also treat waterborne diseases such as cholera and typhoid fever by removing harmful substances in water. For example, in some water treatment plants, PAC is added to the raw water to coagulate and precipitate impurities, and then through filtration and disinfection processes, clean and safe drinking water is obtained.

Wastewater Treatment: In wastewater treatment, PAC plays an important role in removing pollutants such as phosphorus, nitrogen, and sulfur from wastewater. It can form precipitates with pollutants in wastewater, thereby purifying the wastewater before it is discharged into the environment. For instance, in municipal wastewater treatment plants, PAC is used to treat domestic sewage to reduce the content of pollutants and make the treated water meet the discharge standards.

Industrial Water Treatment: PAC is widely used in the treatment of industrial water, such as textile and printing industries, as well as chemical plants. It can complex with anionic molecules and carry them through cell membranes, effectively removing anionic pollutants from water. This helps industries recycle and reuse water, reducing water consumption and environmental pollution.

Paper Industry

Paper Coating and Sizing: PAC is used as a coating and sizing agent in the paper industry. It can improve the surface properties of paper, increase paper strength, and reduce ink penetration. At the same time, it can also improve the water resistance and smoothness of paper, making the paper have better printing performance and quality.

Wastewater Treatment in Paper Mills: Paper mills produce a large amount of wastewater containing high concentrations of suspended solids, organic matter, and chemicals. PAC is used to treat this wastewater to remove suspended solids and organic matter, reduce COD and BOD levels, and make the treated wastewater meet the discharge standards or be recycled for reuse within the plant6.

Chemical Industry

Catalyst Carrier: PAC has a large specific surface area and good adsorption properties, so it can be used as a carrier for catalysts in the chemical industry. By loading active components on PAC, the catalytic activity and selectivity of the catalyst can be improved, and the reaction efficiency can be enhanced.

Adsorbent: It can be used as an adsorbent to remove harmful gases and organic pollutants from industrial waste gases and waste liquids. For example, in the treatment of exhaust gases from chemical plants, PAC can adsorb and remove sulfur dioxide, nitrogen oxides, and other pollutants, reducing air pollution.

Oil and Gas Industry

PAC is used in the oil and gas industry due to its destabilizing oil-water emulsion properties and high phase separation efficiency. It can be added to oilfield produced water to break emulsions, separate oil and water, and recover crude oil. This helps reduce the oil content in produced water, meet environmental discharge requirements, and recycle oil resources.

Textile Industry

Dyeing and Finishing: In the textile dyeing and finishing process, PAC is used as a coagulant to treat dyeing wastewater. It can remove dyes, pigments, and other organic pollutants from wastewater, reduce color intensity, and improve water quality. This is beneficial for the reuse of wastewater or its safe discharge, reducing water pollution in the textile industry.

Fiber Pretreatment: PAC can also be used for fiber pretreatment to improve the wettability and dyeing performance of fibers. By treating fibers with PAC solution, the surface properties of fibers can be modified, making them more receptive to dyes and chemicals during the dyeing process, thereby improving the quality and color fastness of dyed fabrics.

Pharmaceutical Industry

Pharmaceutical Intermediate Production: PAC is used in the production of some pharmaceutical intermediates. It can be used as a catalyst or reactant in certain chemical reactions to synthesize pharmaceutical intermediates with specific structures and functions.

Water Treatment in Pharmaceutical Plants: In pharmaceutical plants, high-quality water is required for drug production. PAC is used to treat the water used in the production process to remove impurities, microorganisms, and other contaminants, ensuring the purity and quality of the water used in drug production and meeting the strict requirements of the pharmaceutical industry for water quality.

Cosmetics Industry

PAC is used in the cosmetics industry as an ingredient in deodorants and antiperspirants. It can adsorb and remove odor-causing substances, control sweating, and maintain body freshness. At the same time, due to its good stability and safety, it can be used in combination with other cosmetic ingredients to improve the quality and performance of cosmetics.
